WE ARE VOLUNTEERING TO HELP THE GOVERNMENT PRODUCE ORGANIC FERTILIZERS, MILLED RICE AND ALTERNATIVE FUELS

This is an urgent offer addressed to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and to his Secretary of Agriculture, Francisco P. Tiu-Laurel, Jr.

I am making this offer together with my fellow advocate, Mr. Ramon Uy, Sr., who is the founder and President of RU Foundry in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

We are offering the government several tested and proven technologies that could immediately address some of the pressing problems that our country is facing now, in the hope that we could prevent or minimize some possible crisis situations that are being predicted.

We are offering the following technologies that are ready to be inspected at several actual pilot sites and demonstration farms in Bacolod City and in nearby locations at any time:

  1. Production of organic fertilizers that could replace up to 100% of our synthetic fertilizers in case of a global shortage.

  2.  Production of biofuels that could be blended with synthetic diesel fuels up to 30% depending on the engines used.

  3. Production of well milled rice without using electric power from the grid, because we will use a combination of solar, windmill and gasifier fuels.

  4. Production of low cost, affordable farm equipment for planting, harvesting, shredding, drying and milling of agricultural products including rice.

  5. Production of gasifier stoves for community kitchens, as a possible alternative to possible shortages in LPG supplies.

  6. Production of gasifier and solar powered pumps for water distribution and irrigation purposes.

  7. Installation of local power grids in small communities, with enough energy for them to power some fluorescent lamps or incandescent bulbs or cell phone chargers.

  8. Installation of boilers and similar devices that they could use to heat or filter water in case of shortages.

Our proposal is to implement these programs in all barangays in the Philippines, under the joint supervision of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), or under whatever the President decides to assign.

Aside from the production of rice by participating farmers, we also recommend that everyone, meaning even ordinary citizens, should be encouraged to plant nutritious crops such as eggplants, cabbages, okras, alugbati, malungay, gabi, camote, cassava, konjak, yacon and potatoes, among others.

We suggest that aside from distributing cash as aid to the needy, the government should also distribute free seeds to everyone, so that they could grow their own vegetables and other crops, as a deterrent to possible shortages or price increases of these food items.

We also suggest that the government should install shredders in all public markets, so that market waste could be shredded before these are brought to composting areas. That way, more compostable materials could be gathered and transported at a lesser cost.

We also suggest that the government should distribute free African night crawler earthworms and “mother composts” to all barangays, so that they could produce their own organic fertilizers using vermicomposting methods. This would not only prevent a fertilizer shortage, it could also prevent a food shortage.

Aside from Mr. Uy and myself, we could also mobilize many other experts who could all help the government in addressing or preventing these crisis scenarios. For that purpose, I have already organized the Roster of Scientists, Inventors and Engineers (ROSIE), an organization that is ready to respond to the call of the government.
